Have you ever stroked a tiger?

No, neither have I, it's just a sign.
But I've been peed on by a tiger, I really have...not that you needed to know this.
It was at the very same zoo a few years back.
The tiger was pacing up and down by his fence and I walked up and down next to him, at one point
he turned his bottom toward me and lifted his tail...
I had a second to jump away
but he still got me all over my jacket sleeve!
That was a jacket I never wore again.

Anyway, this weekend we took the kids to the zoo.
We went on an African safari, great fun.

That's the truck we drove around in.
Half of the zoo has got African animals roaming around "free" in a giant habitat.
Nothing too dangerous, lions and tigers were kept somewhere else.
Going through the gates felt very "Jurassic park" to me.
We were lucky enough to see all these beauties
The giraffes however stayed away from the truck but we did catch
a glimpse of them in the distance

Once we got off we saw Emily's favourites
the meerkats.
These little guys are sooooo cute.

After we cooed over them for like half an hour Emily went into the gift shop and
bought her own toy meerkat with some of her money.
She called him "Meerkatey" and carried him around all day.

Next up we went down the primate path.
We got there at just the right time to see to gorilla's being fed.
There was even a little baby gorilla, so cute.

whoops, wrong photo!

This is better ;)
See the baby climbing on it's mothers back.
She's only five months old, such a cutie.
We were even lucky enough to hold hands with one
This was so cool! The gorilla was hanging upside down but he kept his hand on the glass
the whole time. Perfect photo opportunity!
Some more monkey friends. Quite glad they were kept at a safe distance...see the teeth on
that one!
Wouldn't like to get my hand stuck in that mouth.

Before we left we visited the beautiful gardens.
Dylan wanted to climb walls, Emily wanted to dance.
We even had a moment of sibling "love" over sitting on a mushroom

And last but not least we did this

strike a pose!

Yep, we had a good day and are planning to go back soon
to see the other side of the zoo where they keep the lions and tigers and bears...oh my.

Crazy day

What a day yesterday!
Simon went in for his surgery and I
am happy to say it all went well. He should be
coming back home in a couple of days.
I was a nervous wreck all morning though.
The afternoon was crazy with running back and forth between
the hospital and picking the kids up from school.
I'm so lucky to have good friends that helped me
out all day and even had my kiddies for an
hour after school so I could go back and see Simon after
he'd woken up from his surgery.

Yesterday Emily also finally came home with class teddy Gemma.
I say finally because she's been waiting to get Gemma
ever since October.
You can imagine how happy my little girl was when she
walked out of the classroom, she had the BIGGEST smile on her face!
She played with her all evening.

One of the games she played with Gemma was tea party.
It was adorable.
I love how girls just know how to play tea parties,
I mean it's not like I have tea parties all the time, or ever!
Maybe it's just something us girls are born with,
like playing moms and dads or looking
after our baby dollies.

After the tea party was finished she took Gemma fishing.

Can you see how amazed Gemma is by Emily's fishing skills here!

After the fishing adventure they read some books together,
can I just say my little girl is the BEST reader ever!
I'm amazed at how well she reads, bearing in mind she's only 5.
She can read most words in the books she brings back
from school and is forever spelling out words she
doesn't immediately recognise.
Very proud of my peanut!

In other news...
This morning I woke up to find a dead mouse in my
dining room!
Eva, our cat, had caught it.
When I let her in last night she went all crazy
next to our bookshelf.
She had obviously seen the mouse and was trying to get to it.
I thought she'd seen a big spider and since I'm terrified
of spiders I closed the door and went upstairs.
It was quite the surprise when I walked in this morning and saw
the dead mouse.
On an empty stomach, yay. Luckily there was no blood.
By the way, doesn't Eva look evil in that photo.

I keep telling the kids to be careful whenever they
take our hamster Biscuit out of his cage.

We wouldn't want Eva to get her claws on this little
guy now would we!

I also have to tell you this BRILLIANT news...
I was featured here (please go and have a look!)

Linking up with these fabulous ladies today

Have a great Tuesday my lovelies!

Unfortunately my little peanut is sick so I'm going

Instead I leave you with this

Isn't that just the cutest hedgehog ever! Just look
at that little face...and the tiny feet, awww.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

A day at the zoo

This morning when we opened the curtains it was so lovely and sunny that we decided to spend the day outside. We went to the zoo and the kids were soooo excited! They loved watching the penguins (we even saw them being fed), giraffes, cheetahs, jaguars, snow leopards, tigers (Emily loves big cats, can you tell?!) and of course the meerkats.
A good day was had by all!
